Aspen found FYR Denver in early 2018 after they came to her school, DSST, and did a presentation. While she wasn’t immediately interested in joining, once she saw her friends getting excited about FYR Denver she decided to give it a try. It wasn’t long until Aspen was a regular at FYR Denver. Her favorite part of FYR Denver is the sense of community she feels there. Since joining FYR Denver, Aspen has found that she is able to challenge herself in different ways than before. She is more willing to take a risk and try something new because she knows that she will have support and encouragement from not only the coaches, but also the other athletes in her classes. FYR Denver has allowed her to take control of her life. She no longer finds herself just going along with what others want her to do. She makes her own decisions and does things for herself! Aspen is currently in the final months of her senior year of high school and is waiting to hear back from the colleges she’s applied to about her admissions and scholarships. She hopes to attend a HBCU and major in nursing. She says that FYR Denver has helped improve her self-confidence and given her support for whatever she chooses to do in the future!
